There
are actually two White Hart's in Basingstoke. Don't confuse the two. The
one we are talking about here is the popular pub opposite the Police Station
on London Road. The Pub has been on London Road for absolutely yonks. There
is actually a picture in the bar of it when there was no Police Station
opposite and the road was a dirt track more commonly used by Horse drawn
coaches and
carriages. There are two bars in the pub, a public bar and lounge bar.
There is a pretty decent digital jukebox which is updated regularly and
even features
demos by local bands. There are also a number of Games Machines and a Pool
Table in the public bar which is always being used (poor thing). Let's
talk about the beers shall we - There's a great range of beers for sale
with some
hard to find Real Ale too and a popular beer with the punters is Hobgloblin
(which I am told is nice but I have'nt sampled it yet). There are plenty
of wines and spirits too and another favourite with the regulars is to
make up your own cocktails. It's amazing as some of them taste absolutely
lovely
and not alcoholic......until you wake up the next morning!!! Becky now
runs the pub and is well liked as shey always has the time to
speak to
you
and join in with the party. It's a friendly pub that also has a very nice
and
typical Pub grub menu with BIG portions at a very reasonable price. The
atmosphere is always great and there are a number of regulars who have
been going there
for years...myself included. The pub also has a function room available
upstairs with it's own bar and is generally used for receptions and parties.
Friday
Nights at the White Hart are always busy...in fact they always have been.
There are times when it's unbelievably busy and that's down to the popularity
of the place. Friends meet up there for a few beers before going on elsewhere
later in the evening.A lot of people will stay in the pub until around
11/11.30 before making the journey up the road to Shakermaker where
the party continues into the early hours. You may even find the staff joining
in!!!
Every
other Saturday night is the ever growing 'Request
Fest'. It's a night with DJ
GaryCee (Shakermaker) and
is becoming more and more popular. The night is exactly what it says...it's
a Request Only night so the playlist is down to the customers. They ask
for whatever they like and if the DJ has it...it gets played. It's a very
eclectic night with an anything goes attitude. When we say that anything
gets played (if we have it) then that's what happens and it's a great laugh.
Think of it as a jukebox that you don't have to chuck money into. Just
sit back, enjoy the drinks and have a laugh.
There
is also a group on MySpace dedicated to The
White Massive which is run by Stoo. It has an ever-growing
list of members who are fans of the pub and features news and pictures
